Travelocity really have got a stunning marketing person who is going to set the world alight. A recent survey, initiated by Travelocity has shown, for example, "...that you get a better rate if you book early which means that you can spend more money whilst on holiday". Strewth, Stunning stuff, eh, lads!! And, now get this, ' cos it's a real killer - "..People have a set budget on what they want to spend". Well, blow me down with a feather, after twenty-odd years in travel, I never knew that!

Other world-staggering discoveries are that 5 times more people are self packaging their holidays. No figures, mind, just "five times" more. In any event, this is the old "People only want large houses on small plots" argument - and the answer is the same. No, they don't; if you only build big houses on small plots then that is all you can buy; so No, if you decimate the travel agency network then spend telephone numbers on TV advertising for online travel booking media it is pretty ruddy obvious that you are going to get some increase. Let's face it, "5 times" after such a spend is probably a pretty dismal result. It still means that most people still prefer the good old high street travel agency.

Travelocity have also found out - after a survey - that people would prefer to spend their money on better accommodation than on getting from A to B. I tell you, chaps, the Travelocity marketing department is really hot. They have clearly employed some real winnners. I mean, what are they going to reveal to the great, clearly un-enlightened travel world next? That a staggering 90% of respondents would prefer to travel business class rather than economy??

It does make me wonder some times, what "brains" some companies are buying. These are supposed to be the dynamic young exec's with flair that these "top of the tree" online travel firms take a lot of efffort to recruit. They get them in and only then find out that they have to explain to them what an aeroplane is.

And this year's  "Stating the Blindingly Obvious, Marketing Plonker" travel award goes to......
